Values as a Compass for Sustainable Success
In my previous (blog) posts, I have talked a lot about values – about my own values, how they guide us as individuals, how they help define goals, and how they provide orientation. But values play a crucial role not only on a personal level. They are also essential for companies, as they form the foundation of every successful organization.
Without a clear set of values, long-term stability is lacking. Values give an organization direction and identity – and this directly impacts employees, customers, and partners.

Why Values Are Essential for Companies
Values are more than just nice-sounding words on a website or in corporate presentations – or at least, they should be. They influence decision-making, shape teamwork, and determine how a company responds to challenges. Especially in a world full of change and uncertainty, values provide guidance and help position a company clearly in the market.
Values as a Success Factor:
Identity & Culture: Values create a shared understanding of collaboration, strengthen team cohesion, and influence how employees interact with one another.
Decision-Making: They serve as guardrails for strategic and operational decisions and can help resolve conflicts.
Employee Motivation: People often identify more strongly with companies whose values align with their own. This can increase motivation and engagement and create a sense of purpose in their work.
External Impact: Customers and partners trust companies that have a clear set of values and live them authentically.
Living Values Instead of Just Defining Them
But how can you ensure that values are not just words on paper, in a presentation, or on the company website, but are truly felt in everyday life? The key lies in implementation:
Leaders as Role Models: Values must be exemplified from the top. Often referred to as "Walk the Talk," this means making values visible through actions, not just words.
Employee Involvement: Values only come to life when the entire team helps shape and embrace them. That’s why it’s essential to create a shared understanding of company values.
Integration into Processes & Decisions: Values should be reflected in company goals, feedback culture, and employee development.
Regular Reflection & Adjustment: Do the defined values still align with the company’s development?
