– with LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®

How can we develop a shared understanding of values that doesn’t just look good on paper, but actually guides our day-to-day collaboration? How can real connection emerge in a team – across roles, positions, and backgrounds? And how can even the quieter voices be truly heard?

These are the questions we explored in a recent workshop with my business network – which I had the pleasure of facilitating using the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP) method. A powerful example of how impactful this method can be when it comes to collaboration, culture, and development and when it comes to making shared values visible.

What is LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®?

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is a facilitated workshop method designed to make knowledge, experiences, and perspectives visible and tangible. Through building with LEGO® bricks, participants create individual models that serve as a starting point for reflection, dialogue, and shared understanding. This allows topics to surface that often remain unspoken in everyday work – creating space for genuine participation, fresh perspectives, and open, respectful conversations.

One of the most powerful aspects: people who tend to be more reserved or prefer not to speak up are actively included – and every voice is equally valued in the process.

Here’s how our workshop unfolded:

1. Introduction & Skill-Building

We began with a short introduction to the method, followed by a “skill-building” session. Participants familiarized themselves with the bricks, practiced translating thoughts into models, and learned how to effectively tell the stories behind their builds – a playful way to ease into the creative process.

2. Individual Models: A Value That Matters to You

The first building challenge was:“Build a model that represents a value that is especially important to you in our team’s collaboration.” Each participant built a personal model and then presented it to the group – sharing its meaning, the story behind it, and their personal connection to it. All models were presented openly, allowing time for questions, reflection, and deep exchange. It was inspiring to see how much passion, depth, and openness flowed into the creations..

3. Group Model: Our Shared Value Framework

In the second building phase, we combined the individual models into one shared group model – a symbolic representation of what truly matters to us as a team. This moment is one of the most impactful in the entire process: Every idea was acknowledged, no one was left out. The team built a shared model with clear messages, connecting elements, and a strong sense of group commitment.

4. Focus Areas & Next Steps

To wrap up, we identified key focus topics based on the model and translated them into concrete next steps – ensuring that the creative process also led to actionable outcomes that can take root in everyday work.

What’s the takeaway?

The feedback was consistently positive – many participants were enthusiastic about the method. What stood out most was how everyone became visible and involved – even those who tend to hold back in group settings.

The workshop once again showed:

✅ When everyone is heard and seen, connection is created.

✅ When values become tangible, orientation emerges.

✅ When teams build and reflect together, shared responsibility grows.
